Project Lore

8 09 2008

Project Lore is an online show spearheaded by Alex Albrecht most widely known as the co-host of Diggnation. Much like Diggnation, the concept of Project Lore is very simple which is what makes it so great. Along with 4 other players, they run various instances in World of Warcraft and discuss strategies for each. Each instance is divided between several episodes which are consistently posted throughout the week. They are currently into their 9th set of episodes, all of which can be found at ProjectLore.com.

Unfortunately, Project Lore disabled embedding of videos for some reason so I’m unable to post any here. One would think that tech-savvy people such as themselves wouldn’t do such a thing…go figure.

The Angry Video Game Nerd

8 09 2008

For those of us now in our mid to late 20s, the videos made by the self-dubbed “Angry Video Game Nerd” are they very definition of nostalgic. With each new episode he reviews games made for consoles such as Atari, Nintendo, Sega CD, Calico Vision, and the like. As the name implies, almost every epsiode finds him in the throws of a mad nerd rage at how poorly constructed a lot of the older games were.

Crackhead vs. PT Cruiser

8 09 2008

I don’t recall how I came across this video but it was quite awhile ago and I don’t think that it ever became too popular so I figured I’d post it. The first time I saw it, it was a jaw dropping experience.

Third World – 96 Degrees In The Shade

8 09 2008

I first heard the song “96 Degrees In The Shade” by Third World on the documentary Made In Jamaica and it was instantly stuck in my head. I downloaded their best of album, but this is still the only song I listen to.

Here is the video from their live performance of the song at Sunsplash in 1983:

DJ Marky’s Podcast

8 09 2008

Drum n’ Bass has long been one of my favorite kinds of music and one of my favorite songs in the genre is and will always be “LK” by DJ Marky. While a lot of Drum n’ Bass is very abrasive and aggressive, Marky’s mixes gravitate more towards the softer side which makes them far more listenable. Perhaps because of his Brazilian heritage, he frequently incorporates bossa nova and touches of island jazz into his music.

The Instance

8 09 2008

The Instance is a podcast hosted by Scott Johnson and Randydeluxe about all things related to World Of Warcraft. The show features a variety of regular segments such as Big News, Drop of the Week, and Mod Of The Week. With good consistency they release a new episode every week after recording it live online.

Occasionally the sound quality leaves something to be desired, but compared to most other WOW podcasts I’ve heard it’s far more interesting. Both hosts are knowledgable about the game and humorous without getting too nerdy about it. Over the 2 years that the show has been running they’ve built up a strong community around the show and have a guild called Alea Iacta Est on the Earthen Ring server.

The Instance can be found in iTunes and at www.theinstance.net.

Super High Me

8 09 2008

Super High Me, starring Doug Benson, originally started out as a joke about what it would be like to imitate Morgan Spurlock’s film Super Size Me, but to smoke pot instead of eating McDonald’s. After a film producer saw one his performances and heard the bit, he suggested that they actually make such a movie.

Nuuro

8 09 2008

I came across Nuuro on sky.fm a few weeks ago and have been listening to him nonstop. His sound is a well thought out blend of poppy-dance with catchy hooks with a good dose of experimental electronica thrown in which ensures that the music isn’t just mindless ear candy. Almost every song is sung in Spanish which surprisingly doesn’t detract from it’s listen-ability if you don’t understand the lyrics. In many cases, the fact that it’s in Spanish is what really rounds out the sound to make it what it is.

Nuuro has released several albums and only recently turned 18. Almost all of the songs on his Myspace page are available for free download and he even has another entire album for free as well called The Paper Heart EP. Some of my favorite songs are “Diamante,” “Secret,” and “Desencadenado.”

Here is the link to one of his older albums entitled All Clear which is available in iTunes.

Father Ted

8 09 2008

While promoting my band on Myspace last year I came across someone in Ireland who had a clip of a show called Father Ted on their page. I was lucky enough to be able to find torrents for all three season and savored each one.
