Felguk – Global Music Project (Brazil)

Felguk

It can sometimes be difficult to distinguish between actual good House music and some dink cranking out random 4-on-the-floor trash from his bedroom. Sure, good music is good music, but I feel like House in particular has a wider breadth of what is acceptable, even when it comes to Internet radio airplay. In most cases it seems as though artists will just throw some randoms keys in and mix it with a semi-sultry female vocal and bam. There’s your new song. However, one surefire way to be sure that you’ve found a truly special House artist is if you can’t help but dance in your office chair while writing a blog post…which I’m doing.

Welcome to the world of Felguk, a Brazilian Electro-House group that I absolutely can not stop listening to. The group tours frequently and consists of Gustavo Rozenthal and Felipe Lozinsky. They are current signed to the indie labels Plasmapool & BugEyed Records and have released a ton of albums and EPs which are available for purchase here.

Kaskade – Steppin’ Out

11 06 2009

Here is a great remix of Kaskade‘s “Steppin’ Out.” It’s got kind of a half-time feel to it that definitely adds a lot of relistenability.

Cafe Negro – In Your Eyes

3 06 2009

I couldn’t get ahold of a proper video for this song, but I’m mainly posting it for the song as opposed to the video. Vocals start at about 1 minute in case you get bored with the intro.

I don’t know too much about this group, but here is the link to their Last FM page.

Nuuro

8 09 2008

I came across Nuuro on sky.fm a few weeks ago and have been listening to him nonstop. His sound is a well thought out blend of poppy-dance with catchy hooks with a good dose of experimental electronica thrown in which ensures that the music isn’t just mindless ear candy. Almost every song is sung in Spanish which surprisingly doesn’t detract from it’s listen-ability if you don’t understand the lyrics. In many cases, the fact that it’s in Spanish is what really rounds out the sound to make it what it is.

Nuuro has released several albums and only recently turned 18. Almost all of the songs on his Myspace page are available for free download and he even has another entire album for free as well called The Paper Heart EP. Some of my favorite songs are “Diamante,” “Secret,” and “Desencadenado.”

Here is the link to one of his older albums entitled All Clear which is available in iTunes.

DJ Harry – Collison

5 09 2008

This article first appeared on About.com.

When thinking of House music, one tends to conjure up images of bright lights and big cities… but snow-capped mountains? Well, DJ Harry, who hails from Boulder, Colorado, proves that it’s not where you’re from, it’s where you’re at… musically. Shedding the uptempo sound of his String Cheese Incident remix project from 2001, DJ Harry now prefers a more ambient style of House music. On his aptly titled 2004 SCI Fidelity release “Collision,” Harry masterfully combines the bouncy vibe of House music, the downtempo mystique of Trip-Hop, and the rich keyboards typical of Acid Jazz.
